Working in Japan

Local Japanese youths and foreign students often work part time, in order to earn a bit of extra pocket money for travel and leisure.

According to Law of Japan, students on a STUDENT VISA may work up to:

■ 8 hours a day, 28 hours a week during school terms
■ 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week during Spring / Summer / Winter holidays

The estimated average wage for part-time work is as follows:

Day-shift: JPY 950 per hour
Night-shift: JPY 1150 per hour

Example of income from Part-Time Work:
If you work 20 hours a week, 40 weeks year in a day shift job, you can earn:

(20 hours) x 40 weeks x (JPY 950 per hour) = JPY 760,000

Part-Time Work Support

Matsudo International School maintains close ties with many companies around the neighbourhood and region, and receives recruitment notices on a regular basis.

We help our students with part-time jobs in the following manner:

■ Match and recommend part-time jobs to our students
■ Arrange interviews with our partner organisations
■ Contacting employers in case of emergencies, or if the student requires aid in communicating important issues to his/her employer.

Part-Time Work at Resorts

Students who meet the following criteria will also have the special opportunity to work at resorts all over Japan over the school holidays (Spring/Summer/Winter):

■ Above 90% attendance
■ Exhibited good attitude in studies, good general conduct and good grades

You may be assigned to resorts such as the following:

■ Ski Resorts
■ Beach Resorts
■ Hot Spring Resorts
